Achieving both Energy-Efficiency and Reliability in Modular Data Centers

چکیده

It has been shown that supply voltage changes have negative effect on soft error rate and therefore, in systems in which reliability is an important factor, reconsidering current voltage assignment techniques to make them reliability-aware is an important requirement. In this work we jointly investigate energy-efficiency and reliability issues in modular data centers that exploit Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS) scheme to reduce their total energy consumption. More specifically, we propose an algorithm to find the best voltage assignment to the servers across a container in such a way that the total energy consumption of container becomes optimized and at the same time, the reliability requirements of the container in terms of soft errors are met.
